The Bpi is made up of: 

  • three themed departments, which share the documentary offer in line with fields of knowledge: 
     
  • Comprendre (Understand) department (sciences, social sciences, documentary film)
  • Vivre et Imaginer (Experience and Imagine) department (medicine, law, techniques, practical expertise and independent learning, literature, music, arts)
  • Lire le monde (Read the world) department (press and media)
     
  • three support departments: 
     
  • Visitor department
  • Information technology department
  • Technical services department
     
  • An Administrative department in charge of administrative services

Three commissions assist the senior management: 

  • National and international cooperation
  • Documentary policy
  • Internal communication, archives and patronage
